Zirconium Sponge

State Nuclear Baoti Zirconium Industry Company (hereafter known as SNZ ) was established on November 26, 2007 with the co-investment by State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation Ltd and Baoti Group. As a core Subsidiary company of SNPTC, SNZ strive to realize the localization of the manufacturing technology nuclear-grade zirconium product.

Zirconium Sponge Production Line
State Nuclear WEC Zirconium and Hafnium Co., Ltd. ([SNWZH") was invested and founded by State Nuclear Baoti Zirconium Industry Co., Ltd and Westinghouse Electric UK Holdings Limited. SNWZH was established on June 30, 2009 with a registered capital of RMB 210 million. The investment for the first phase of the nuclear grade zirconium sponge project is RMB 500 million.

 Being located in Nantong, a beautiful and pioneering city of modern China with Shanghai and Suzhou across the Yangtze River, it is convenient for transportation. SNWZH is specialized in developing, manufacturing and distributing all sorts of nuclear grade zirconium sponge, industrial zirconium sponge, oxidized hafnium (or hafnium sponge) and related byproduct with an plant area of 199,800 sq m. The estimated annual turnover could reach RMB 500 million Yuan with its annual capacity of 2,000 mt of nuclear grade zirconium sponge and 30 mt of hafnium sponge.

Products
1. Zirconium sponge, also known as metal zirconium, is a glossy silver gray metal, which resembles steel in appearance; it is an active metal, and can form an oxide film at room temperature, with very strong corrosion resistance; zirconium has high hardness and strength, as well as good mechanical and heat transfer performances, in addition to excellent luminous characteristics;
2. Metal zirconium is featured by a small thermal neutron absorption cross-section, lending excellent nuclear properties to metal zirconium;
3. Zirconium can easily absorb hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen; zirconium has a strong affinity to oxygen. Oxygen of 1000 ℃ dissolved in zirconium can increase the volume of the latter significantly;
4. Zirconium is relatively stable in the air; powdery zirconium is prone to burning; fine zirconium can be ignited with matches, and can be chemically combined with oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen directly at high temperatures; zirconium tends to emit electrons at high temperatures.
Nuclear grade zirconium sponge:
Mainly used as structural materials for nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines and civil power generation reactors, as well as claddings for uranium fuel element.
Industrial grade zirconium sponge:
1. Zirconium alloy is also used in the production of high-quality chemical corrosion-resistant equipment components, specially high-strength and high-temperature alloy materials and pharmaceutical devices;
2. Zirconium and zirconium alloys are also widely used as non-evaporative getters in electrical vacuum and bulb industries;
3. Used as flashing and fireworks materials;
4. Used for manufacturing bullet-proof alloy .
